A message from our Patron
Her Grace, The Duchess of Northumberland

‘I met members of the group in 2022 when I presented their Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, and I was immediate impressed with the friendliness of the team and the huge impact they have made in the community in North Northumberland. For over 30 years, they have offered an invaluable service for people struggling at some of the hardest points in their lives, taking away the stress of arranging transport to and from appointments, to say nothing of the expense. The volunteers give up countless hours to help others, and their plans for the future are truly inspirational.’

The Berwick & District Cancer Support Group are very proud to have been awarded
'The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service'

"The work of these volunteers has made a significant and valuable difference to the lives of others. The Queen's Award gives national recognition to extraordinary acts of voluntary service and the accolade is only given out in exceptional circumstances.

These volunteers are extremely passionate about what they do, and their hard work and dedication is an inspiration to us all. These commendations are so very well deserved, and I am pleased to see the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service recipients gain the recognition they so rightfully deserve."

Our Service

Julie Neil Rings The Cancer Bell at the Freeman Cancer Care Centre

"At a time of much worry the Cancer Cars team took away so much of the stress with their invaluable service. I will be forever grateful to them all."
- Julie, July 2021

Proudly celebrating over 30 years of service to our community, The Berwick & District Cancer Support Group, more familiarly known locally as 'Berwick Cancer Cars', was founded in 1992 by a group of people who through experience knew how difficult it was to get to main hospitals from our area for cancer appointments.

Our group is run on a totally voluntary basis and many of our members have experienced living alongside cancer in one way or another. All our volunteers are committed to keeping the service we provide available to all who may need it.

We are a local registered charity supported by our fundraising and donations.
