In an uplifting celebration Berwick Cancer Cars have marked a significant milestone in its journey by officially opening its new headquarters in Tweed Street, Berwick. Her Grace, The Duchess of Northumberland, who, along with young fundraiser Lennox Hannan and The Tweedmouth Salmon Queen and her Attendants, brought an air of excitement and anticipation to the occasion. In a heartfelt gesture, The Duchess cut a yellow ribbon to mark the opening and unveiled a commemorative plaque, symbolizing the collective efforts of all the trustees, committee, drivers and supporters to those locally affected by Cancer. Her Grace was presented with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the charity by Mae, The Salmon Queen.

The Berwick and District Cancer Support Group has been a pillar of strength for the local community providing essential support, transport and compassion to individuals and families affected by Cancer. The opening of their new headquarters is a testament to the tireless efforts and dedication of its members, volunteers, donors and fundraisers.

The presence of Her Grace, The Duchess of Northumberland, added a touch of grandeur to the opening ceremony. Her Graceโ€™s commitment to charitable causes and her passion for making a positive impact in the lives of others made her the perfect choice to inaugurate the new headquarters. The Duchessโ€™s genuine warmth and empathy resonated with everyone present as she gave credit to the charity and all involved. A cake made by Shona Black in shape of one of our cars to celebrate the occasion was also enjoyed.

The day also saw the naming of the groups two new cars, โ€˜Piperโ€™ and โ€˜Tweedyโ€™. Piper in honour of the retiring Chair, Andrew Smith who after a lengthy time at the helm has handed over the reigns to Ann Short. Andrew is a Piper and raised money for the group through Piping at various events. Tweedy, named in honour of their new home in Tweed Street.

Paul Jackson, Chair of Trustees said of the day, โ€œThe journey to acquiring our own building has been a long one. But thanks to the generosity of our supporters and the tireless energy of our volunteers we were today able to welcome Her Grace, The Duchess of Northumberland to cut the ribbon at 8 Tweed Street. The building is now officially open for business. We would like to thank everyone who has made this possible and to her grace for finding time in her busy schedule to journey north and add her imprimatur to our new home.โ€ Ann Short, Chair of the Management Committee said, โ€œWe were all very proud to welcome the Duchess of Northumberland to the official opening of Berwick Cancer Cars Headquarters. Many thanks to all our supporters and local businesses who have made today possible.โ€

The opening of the new building marks not only significant achievement for the charity but also the beginning of a new chapter in our mission to secure our presence and provide unwavering support to those in the Berwick and District Community affected by Cancer.
