Annual Charity Football Match Raises Over £500

GMC Shield charity football match 15 JUL 2023

Each year The Berwick and District Cancer Support Group and HospiceCare North Northumberland field teams of footballers to take part in a friendly match to play for the GMC Shield to help raise money and awareness of our two charities.

Both teams played well with early near misses from the Berwick Cancer Cars players and five goals from the winning HospiceCare North Northumberland squad. Our thanks to the management and staff at Berwick Rangers Shielfield Park for so kindly hosting, supporting and promoting the event. To Nick McCreath and Martin O’Neill for heading up the two teams on the day, all the players, the ref and linesmen for doing a great job keeping things running smoothly, ball boys and girls, to Laura Robertson and Victoria Leishman for Piping the teams on, Forte Bros Ice Cream & Event Catering and everyone who came along to support and help the day. Presenting the GMC Shield was Neil Craig of GMC Building Contractors.

The generosity of the crowd, who numbered over 100, raised in excess of £500 which was split between the two charities. Our congratulations, once again, to HospiceCare North Northumberland for their victory at this fantastic family day – but look out HospiceCare as Berwick Cancer Cars are looking forward to claiming the GMC Shield in 2024 to sit pride of place at our home in Tweed Street!! Looking forward to the re-match!!
