Berwick Cancer Cars
Great North Run Team 2025
Berwick Cancer Cars have had a Great North Run team since 2015 when seven runners, all from Berwick-upon-Tweed, took up the challenge to run the world famous 13.1 mile route in aid of our Cars.
For 2025 we're once again building an exceptional team of fundraisers. As well as our local heroes, we will have runners joining us from all over the UK!
"The friendly and helpful Cancer Cars volunteers enabled my mum to make her hospital appointments on time and relaxed, meaning that we as a family knew our mum is in safe hands. Cancer Cars are not only helping people in our area with cancer, but also their families. Please help me say a big THANK YOU to Cancer Cars."
Susan Howlett, GNR Cancer Cars Team Runner

BE PART OF OUR AMAZING 2025 GNR TEAM !
Our Great North Run Cancer Cars Runners make a HUGE impact each year. It's our single biggest and most important fundraising event of the year.
We are currently building our 2025 Team. If you would like to register your interest in one of our places please CLICK HERE but also PLEASE, PLEASE try the GNR Ballot too. This way we can build a bigger team as our charity places are limited.
Unlike other charities we do not pass on the £83 fee we pay for each of our Charity places and we do not stipulate a minimum fundraising amount, we just ask that our runners do the very best they can to support us through their amazing fundraising efforts. Every pound raised goes to help those battling cancer in our community to reach their cancer related treatments and appointments using our FREE Cancer Cars transport service for the Berwick & District community.
SO TWO THINGS TO DO IF YOU WOULD LIKE A CHANCE TO BE IN OUR TEAM:
1. CLICK HERE AND LET US KNOW YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN OUR TEAM
2. CLICK HERE AND REGISTER FOR THE BALLOT (remember and let us know if you have been successful in the ballot and would like to join the team).
If you are unsuccessful in the general ballot we will then enter your name in our own (limited places) ballot.
Please fill in the form by CLICKING HERE or email us at [email protected] if you would like to be part of our fantastic fundraising running family !! You still have a chance of being in the team!
Should you already have your own place and wish to join our team please email [email protected]

We will once again be organising our very popular weekly 'social training runs' in 2025, starting in July, 9 weeks before the BIG DAY. We love our get togethers and everyone is welcome to join us whether they are running for us or not !! Our first run will be a short easy fun run around the Berwick Town Walls (ALL our runs are FUN !!) increasing the distance each week by roughly a mile. To give all those legs a rest we break a week before the Great North Run.
'
All our runners are given a free, sponsored running top as a thank you and we encourage all our team to wear Berwick Cancer Cars tops during their training runs as it gives our sponsors the support they deserve too. For anyone wanting extra tops we have these are on sale at £15 each and we still have various sizes available. Please make contact with Robert at [email protected]
A Massive 'Thank You' for the support of our "GNR 2024" local businesses for sponsoring our running tops!

Meet @TweedStreet - Wednesday for 6.00pm for 6.30pm Start (last 2 runs 30 mins earlier)
In the weeks building up to the big day we organise a run every Wednesday. Starting from our new home in Tweed Street we build up the miles every week. These runs are 'fun' and are designed to let you meet your fellow charity runners and help those who are starting from scratch. You go at your own pace and there is never any pressure. You are welcome to use our facilities to leave your belongings or to get changed. Parking is restricted so you are better to park in Castlegate Car Park or Castlegate itself.
Some of our amazing volunteers will also be there on the night making sure you have some refreshments.
We welcome everyone so even if you are not running for The Berwick & District Cancer Support Group you are welcome to join us. Kids are very welcome too so please bring them along.

2023
The Great North Run is our single biggest fundraising event of the year. For 2023 our team was made up of 5 wee junior runners who took part in the Junior & Mini Great North Run on Saturday 9th September, and a huge team of 55 senior runners who took part in the Great North Run (the "World's Biggest Half Marathon") on Sunday 10th September. We are mighty proud of every one of our 60 strong team of runners. All absolute heroes
Out total for 2023 stands at over £32,000!!!!
2022
Our 30th Year Anniversary Team was our biggest team yet!! Our INCREDIBLE team of 64 fundraising runners raised over £32,000.
2021
Congratulations to our Great North Run 2021 (40th Birthday) Runners!! After the disappointment of 2020 we were delighted the 40th Anniversary Celebrations went ahead and our amazing team of 53 fundraising runners raised over £32,000.
2020
Covid-19 - The Great North Run was cancelled and our runners had to hang up their running shoes until 2021 !!
2018
In 2018 we managed an amazing 41 runners in The Great North Run and The Junior Great North Run raising over £20,000! We also starred in the opening credits of the BBC coverage.
2017
It is difficult to get entries for the run as it is so popular but for the 2017 run we managed to have 39 participants and raised the magnificent sum of £14,000. This money allowed us to replace one of cars and name him 'Miles' in recognition of all the miles ran by our incredible Berwick Cancer Cars GNR Team Runners.
ARE YOU READY TO TAKE ON THE CHALLENGE?
