New Home Day @TweedStreet

Berwick Cancer Cars leaving Asda and move to their new home at Tweed Street

Monday 8th May, 2023

💛❤️💛 Berwick Cancer cars “New Home Day!” 💛❤️💛

Our enormous thanks to everyone who came along to say a fond farewell to our Cars as they left Asda for the last time today and headed over to their new home. And what a fantastic and emotional reception our Cars received when they arrived at Tweed Street! Firstly lead in by a pipe band to be met by a crowd of cheering well wishers who all braved the rain!! Absolutely amazing support from our amazing town. We are truly humbled!!

At the helm of our six cars today were Tom Matthewson driving “Thomas” accompanied by our Chair, Andrew Smith; Michael Cox driving “Fiona”; Julie Nicholl driving “Pearl”; Louise Cockburn driving “Russell”, accompanied by Graham Toward and Tracy Tait (Russell’s brother and sister); David Pagan driving “Roddy” and Trevor Standing driving “Carol”.

Our team of volunteers were on hand to meet all our friends and supporters, we were delighted to welcome former Berwick Mayor, Mike Greener, outgoing Sheriff Eddie Docherty Mullins, and Berwick’s new Mayor, John Robertson and his wife Anne.

Our charity Chair of Trustees, Paul Jackson: “Over the last 31 years the Berwick and District Cancer Support Group has been loyally and royally supported by the generosity of the town and locality. So it was wonderful that we were able on this Coronation volunteers day, and inspite of the torrential rain, to welcome so many people to the ‘soft opening’ of our new building at 8 Tweed Street. The building, acquired through the generosity of our supporters, will enable us to develop the range of cancer support which the town and area not only need, but deserve.”

Thank you Berwick and District for making it possible for us to finally have a safe home for our cars and a hub for our volunteers which we look forward to sharing with our very special community.
