‘Our’ Joy Cowan shortlisted for “The ITV Regions Fundraiser of the Year” award
We are enormously proud to announce Berwick Cancer Cars Fundraiser and Committee Member, Joy Cowan has been shortlisted for “The ITV Regions Fundraiser of the Year” for her amazing fundraising achievements in aid of the Berwick and District Cancer Support Group, now in its 30th anniversary year.
In her role as fundraising volunteer coordinator Joy has played a huge role in the charity over the years and has been instrumental in helping to raise tens of thousands of pounds, and always with a smile! Along with her husband, David, who is the charity’s Treasurer, Joy has helped raise awareness of the work the charity does throughout the Berwick & District community and beyond, promoting its free hospital cancer transport service for those with a cancer diagnoses.
The prestigious Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards in partnership with TSB, supported by ITV, celebrates the achievements of truly remarkable people who make our world a better place. Nominated by the public, the award nominees are from all walks of life, of all ages, and from all over the country. Their achievements are awe-inspiring and a lesson to us all. They say they are ordinary people, but their acts are truly extraordinary.
Tom Barton, Northumberland Correspondent, ITV Tyne Tees, recently travelled to Berwick-upon-Tweed to interview Joy and some of her fellow Berwick Cancer Cars volunteer members, his profile piece will be aired on ITV tonight, Tuesday 27th September, from 6pm onwards!
Joy, who has been a big part of the charity for seven years and always refers to her fellow volunteers as her “extended family”, said of the nomination “I’m feeling very nervous and very excited and so happy for us all at Berwick Cancer Cars, it’s an honour to be nominated as a representative for the group and I’m thrilled to have been shortlisted from over 1,200 nominees to the final four! Whatever the award outcome this is such an achievement for the charity and I couldn’t do my job as volunteer fundraising coordinator without my amazing Berwick Cancer Cars teammates.”
All the volunteer team at Berwick Cancer Cars wish Joy every bit of good luck for her ITV Regions Fundraiser of the Year nomination in this year’s Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards!! We will all be tuning in tonight to watch Tom Barton’s profile piece on ITV and to see ‘Our Joy’.
