As you all know our charity loves to celebrate our young supporters. They hold a very special place in our hearts as they’re often raising funds to help or to commemorate a close family member and the enormous courage and selflessness they show is incredibly touching.
Young heroes, 11 year old Amy Bruce, along with her brother Zane aged 9, wanted to do something special in memory of their mum Lynda Bruce who herself bravely climbed up The Cheviot, Northumberland’s mightiest peak, in 2017 after being diagnosed with terminal breast cancer, and which she did in aid of Hospice Care North Northumberland and Berwick Cancer Cars. So Amy and Zane decided to take part in the 2021 Boxing Day Dip and to follow in their mum’s footsteps by raising money for Lynda’s two chosen charities who helped and supported her.
Braving the very chilly Boxing Day sea Amy and Zane were joined by family and friends including Ailsa Skelly, Ellen Hume and Miriam Kerr. They raised an incredible £1730 in total, splitting the donations between Hospice Care North Northumberland and Berwick Cancer Cars.
We genuinely cannot thank these amazing young supporters enough, we are truly humbled by their super Boxing Day Dip fundraising achievement. With the addition of their wonderful £865 donation our overall Boxing Day Dip fundraising total is now a staggering £6371.50! Thank you everyone, what a difference your generosity makes to the lives of those suffering with cancer in our Berwick & District community.
One of Amy’s many online donators left a comment that said “Go Amy!! Your Mum would be so proud of you”. We think Lynda would indeed be the proudest mum in the world of her two little ones, and rightly so. Thank you Amy and Zane and to their cousin Anna Skelly who also took part in the Dip and did an amazing job behind the scenes helping to set everything up.
