Meet our new car Thomas
On Saturday 25th February we proudly took charge of our newest cancer car “Thomas” and we said a very fond farewell to cancer car “Emma” named in honour of Emma Cairns, Tweedmouth Salmon Queen 2018-2019 who did so much to fundraise and to raise awareness of Berwick Cancer Cars during her reign.
The Berwick Cancer Cars committee voted unanimously to name our new car in recognition of our very own Tom Matthewson. Tom, who came runner up in the 2022 “Lady Rose Crossman Lifetime Achievement Award”, has given so generously of his time as a volunteer in his roles as Berwick Cancer Cars vehicle manager and driver to help those in our community. It was a fitting tribute to celebrate Tom’s continued, outstanding service and dedication to the charity and on behalf of the hundreds of cancer patients he’s helped over the years.
The naming ceremony took place at the Tweedmouth Service Station in front of many of Tom’s fellow Berwick Cancer Car volunteers. Alongside our volunteer charity trustees and committee members there was a wonderful turn out of volunteers drivers, both past and present, who came to share in the celebrations.
Huge congratulations to Tom and a very warm welcome to “Thomas” from all the Berwick Cancer Cars volunteer team!
